Campus Ministry

Religious studies are required for all four years with a different theme each year of study. Students will all participate in a retreat every year as a division. Kairos retreats are 4 days and 3 nights and offered for both junior and senior boys and girls. Liturgies and prayer services are held on holy days and throughout the school year. Community service hours are required for graduation. Seton has a Deacon and a Campus Minister on staff available to students. There is also a student prayer room available during the school day.

Campus Ministry utilizes students to act as ministers in a number of capacities. They act as lectors and prayer leaders during homeroom throughout the year and also during our liturgies and masses. They are also group leaders (peer ministers) during Freshmen and Sophomore retreats and special retreats throughout the year. Ministry formation is ongoing throughout the entire academic year.

As a Catholic high school in the Archdiocese of Chicago, Seton Academy has a primary goal to help in the Catholic Christian spiritual formation of our students. Campus ministry utilizes all students to act as ministers in various capacities. Ministry formation will be ongoing throughout the entire academic year.

Campus Ministry Goals:

  • To develop a community of faith, compassion, and justice based on the gospels of Jesus Christ.
  • To develop the spiritual growth of all students, faculty, administration, and staff by following Catholic Christian traditions and teachings.
  • To create a Catholic Christian environment in the school and all school functions.
  • To instill in each student the importance of prayer in our daily lives. At the beginning of each homeroom the entire school will pause for scripture, reflection, and prayer.
  • To coordinate regular celebrations of the Eucharist as well as other worship celebrations.
  • To provide retreats, which allow students and faculty to grow ever closer to God. The freshman retreat is sowing the seeds of our faith; the sophomore retreat is nurturing the seeds of our faith; the junior retreat is harvesting our Catholic Christian faith; and the senior retreat is our Kairos retreat and is mandatory.
  • To provide the opportunities for our students to live their faith through service to others.
  • To empower our students, faculty, administration, and staff to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Pastoral care and spiritual direction are available through our Campus Minister.

Seton Academy Daily Prayers

NOVEMBER 11
We begin in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. AMEN
SCRIPTURE: A reading from the book of Proverbs
He who scorns instructions will pay for it, but he who respects the commands of the Lord is rewarded. The word of the Lord.
REFLECTION: The Holy Bible contains instructions which if followed, will lead to salvation and righteousness. A righteous life is one of faith, honesty, kindness, gratitude and love. If we seek to follow in the steps of our savior Jesus Christ, we must live according to his commands to love God and neighbor.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, your commands are a perfect guide for my life. Give me the wisdom to walk righteously in your ways, always trusting in God the Father. AMEN

NOVEMBER 12
WE begin in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit AMEN
SCRIPTURE: A reading from the Holy Gospel of St. Mark
Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still know faith?”
The Gospel of our Lord
REFLECTION: Trusting in Jesus takes a great deal of faith. Jesus wants to walk with us through every moment of our life, but we need to invite him in so that fear will leave. Put your faith in Jesus not in our fears.
PRAYER: Christ our help, please help us to trust that with you in our lives, we have no fear. For you are always with us. AMEN

NOVEMBER 13
We begin in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. AMEN
SCRIPTURE: A reading from the Book of Sirach
Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, and just as many have fallen by the power of the tongue. The word of the Lord
REFLECTION: We all know how awful we feel when we become aware of gossip. But strange how we still manage to spread the rumor and the gossip even when we know it’s wrong. Jesus is the truth, speak the truth.
PRAYER: Dear God, help me to remember that I wouldn’t want people gossiping about me. Help me to put the gossip to an end by not participating. Help us always to speak the truth. AMEN

NOVEMBER 14
We begin in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
SCRIPTURE: A reading from the book of Genesis
So God created humankind in His image, in the image of God, He created them; male and female He created them. The word of the Lord
REFLECTION: Is there a more profound description of human dignity? Look in the mirror and realize that you are gazing at an image of God. Look at your neighbor and know that he/she is God!
PRAYER: God, forgive us for the times we have criticized others, not realizing that we are criticizing you. You created us in your image, let us all celebrate that today! AMEN ttt
